I have a 1948 Custom 8 Victoria Convertible and would like to know how many were made and how many are estimated to have survived.

G'day Willie,
to PackardInfo. Can't shed light on your queries but imagine the Roster Keepers for your year/model Packard at PAC and PI would be best placed to provide answers.

And I invite you to include your '48 Custom 8, a very nice looking car from the pic, in the Owner Registry here together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it.

Very nice. Production was 1105. I don't know how many would be left though.

My source (Nat Dawes book) says 1318 22nd series Custom 8 convertibles built, 1103 as a 1948 model, and 215 as an early 1949 model. Except for vehicle #, the 49 models (of the 22nd series) are essentially identical to the 1948 and are considered a single run of vehicles. About 30 Custom 8 convertibles are listed in PAC's directory, I'd estimate atleast another 20-30 existing.

PS - I envy your car, the 22nd series Custom 8s are considered by many to be the last cars built by Packard that are truly representative of their glory days as a really premium car manufacturer. I've owned 2 Custom 8s, neither a convertible unfortunately, and I hope you enjoy driving yours as much as I did mine.

That is an absolutely beautiful car! I have always loved light yellow paint, and being a 48 Packard just makes it perfect.

Willie, or is it Bill,

I see you've now got a pic of the '48 Custom 8 in the Photo Gallery with the comments "I bought this Custom 8 Victoria Convertible in Ft Lauderdale, FL in September of 2008. When I went to post it on the Packard Photo Gallery, I saw that someone else had posted photos of the car in June of 2008, three months before I bought the car.Bill Jones Jr. of Garden City, KS aka Williej". A very nice surprise indeed!

And, I also see you have a '41 120 Convertible Coupe in the Photo Gallery. Can you please include it in the Owner Registry as well as the '48?

I'd like to have the vehicle and thief-proof numbers if possible. Not a late 22nd series Custom as it has the first style bumper; not an early car either as it has chrome headlight bezels, though they could have been subsequently plated during restoration I guess. Not saying its the case with this car, but its a shame when those little details are altered over the years or during restoration, we lose a bit of historical accuracy each time.

Bill,
for including the '41 in the Owner Registry. An interesting history there!

Beautiful cars Williej. I am sure they are a joy to drive. What's the history on the Custom Eight or did I miss it?
