Hey Paul, I have a 55' and I plan on refilling my Ultramatic with "original" B&M Trick Shift. After much research that's what I found to be best from other people's experience..... On a side note you have 4 of the same threads, you should delete all of then except for this one. Once somebody replies to a thread you can't delete it, you will need a administrator to do it for you.

Looks like they are already deleted. Anyway, this question comes up here all the time so whenever I learn something I will soon need to know, I make a note of it. Here is my note for this:

Fluid to use
Dexron if rebuilt
Type F if original

B&M Trickshift also comes up in the answers but I saved only the common fluids to my notes.

I wouldn't use a synthetic, too slippery - Ultras want more "grippiness". I'd go with Type F or FA or TrickShift.

To delete the three duplicate threads you should be able to go into each of them and HIT the delete button at the bottom of the page.

If the transmission was rebuilt with modern clutch materials then Dextron spec ATF is recommended. If old NOS parts were used then Type F or Trickshift, which is a modified Type F.

I had an occasional noise problem on my '51 when it would try to lockup. I changed the fluid to B&M Trick Shift (posted above). While it didn't completely eliminate it, it made significant improve it getting rid of the rattling noise.
