No ads, I must be lucky, or is it because I live in the
lucky country, Australia?

That’s a shock without warning to find scantily dressed people all of a sudden. I would rather the site be full subscription than to have the ads!

I noticed the adds showing up at the bottom, but have found them to be unobtrusive. Being at the bottom makes it very easy to ignore and move on to the next page.

So, since Kev generously, donates his time, the rest of the cost is VERY small per person if all of the regular users were to donate. At $125 per month, it would only be $2.50 per month with 50 people. This site is by FAR one of the best values I’ve come across.

I’ve gotten priceless help on my car, learned a ton, AND have made a lot of friends at the same time. I try to donate to the cause when I can.

Kev - I hate to think about the amount of time you spend on this site. HUGE thank you for the job you’ve done and to all the others that help out.

There are two types of ads showing. One is locked at the bottom and the other at the bottom too but floats on top of the site’s content. On a mobile device which is the way I generally view the site, it takes up much of the screen.

Also, one ad that keeps popping up seems to be a legitimate warning that those unfamiliar to the site might not understand and think they need to clock it. It’s very misleading.

Unfortunately internet ads have been like that pretty much since the beginning of time...

I'll make some changes tomorrow when I am back in my office. Perhaps I'll see if I can make it so Ads are only displayed to Anonymous users.

I would be curious how that would affect ad revenue. For example, there are 30x the anonymous users as registered users on right now, but are they looking at a greater or lesser proportion of pages?

A lot of times the anonymous is likely situations where people are like me, simply not logged on, until or unless we want to comment. Sometimes my browser or the site timed me out (not a big deal) and I just don't bother logging back in unless necessary. That said, if there was a need to pay I would not be opposed but it would be nice to still have a "free" forum. I mainly say that b/c my experience with the forum, pre-purchasing of a Packard, was a huge influence in my comfort to make the leap. Nothing against other car makes or forums, but a lot of others I came across were more rod oriented, not for noobs like me, etc.

Yes, this forum, like any successful social network, relies on being publicly accessible to draw people in.

Okay, I've made the change, so if you are "Logged In", you will NOT see the advert at the bottom. The only folks who will see it are people/bots/spammers who are not logged in (aka Anonymous).
