I noticed a couple of features on this '37 115C Business Coupe on eBay. From the collective wisdom here I'd like some advice on these as part of my continuing Packard education. They are: 1) The Packard nameplate on the boot(trunk) lid, and 2) The radio speaker mounted in the headliner. Concerning the nameplate, is this "correct"? I've never noticed one before, but then again there's a lot that passes me by. I've also never seen a radio speaker mounted in that position on a Packard, ever seen this before? I realise you can mount speakers anywhere within reason and sometimes even when reason is not part of the equation like the boom boxes on wheels which are now on the roads.

The nameplate on the trunk is not an original Packard piece, there were no nameplates on the body at all. Speaker on the headliner was common on Fords I believe, but not orig. on Packard.

Looking at the placement of the speaker it is in a position where I have seen all original 37 Junior speakers. The speakers had two patterns one for the 6 (115C) and on for the 8 (120). The correct option for the trunk emblem is the same as I use for my aviator.On the 115C it would say Packard 6 and on the 120 it is shown here on my info here. The one in the coupe from Wichita Kansas is used a lot of times on sidemount spares as an add on when it has the total wheel side enclosed and the hubcaps are not seen. And on the 120 there is an emblem in the center of the rear bumper that says Packard. But unless you have the optional trunk emblem there is nothing on the body itself. Both my 138CD Limo and my 1095CD Sport Coupe both have the trunk emblem.

1936 and 1937 120's Are what we like best. But we also like all other Packards too.

Actually, the name plate on the trunk is a Packard accessory. This rare and unusual item has even been reproduced by Dave Schumacher. It can be found here

A brief excerpt from Dave's website:
"Packard Hood and Trunk Emblem
Here is an item that you don't often see! Packard produced these Emblems to go on to the sides of the hood an or the trunk. They also used them on the sides of the side mount covers. Most commonly used from 1935 - 1940 on all models. Take a look at page #3 of the Service Letter Vol. 12-9 that showed this emblem. We have it available in two different types of installation. One with an Automotive adhesive and the other with studs as originally installed.

This Emblem is 9 1/4 inch long X 1 1/4 inch high"

39Super8 is correct. This was an optional emblem put on the trunk of some Packards. I had a 1937 120 Club Sedan that had that emblem on it since day-one. The car was unrestored when I purchased it.

As far as the overhead speaker goes, here's what I know.

Per the 1937 115 and 120 Accessories Catalog, Packard offered 2 radios in 1937 for their Junior cars, a "Single-Unit" radio and a "Custom Radio." (Unfortunately I don't have a scanner to scan the pictures in to show you.) The overhead speaker came standard with the Single-Unit radio. A round speaker, mounted above the passenger's feet, came standard with the Custom Radio. However, a note in the catalog's description under the overhead speaker says, "This type speaker is optional at no extra cost with a Packard Custom Radio.
