This will be my summer project this year. I have been collecting parts for this project for the last 7 or 8 years and I think I have enough to start assembly.
I will post pictures as progress is achieved. I do not plan it to be a show car, just functional.

That vehicle would have been a 2280 (6 cyl)? You sure have your work cut out for you! Best of luck with your project - you've got a lot more courage that I would have.

Looks like you will have some quality time in the garage!

Couple of questions;

Did all the Packard taxi have the crest on the doors? I see the outline on the driver side rear door.

What is on the right front hub?

Is the luggage rack standard, or option for the taxi?

I have been told that my gears between my ears don't mesh. I am trying to save a bit of history. This is the only reported known NY taxi left. Maybe I can preserve enough for the next generation to work with. It actually looks better in the pictures. Only time will tell. Packardtaximan

Excellent observation on the wheel. It is something home made for moving a car with a locked up wheel. It is very crude but it does the job to get a car on and off a hauler. As far as the crest I can not say for sure. I would think that the larger company's would have their own logo on the door. I have not been too successful finding information on Packard taxicabs. The rack was necessary in NYC as the trunk area was restricted for spare tire and jack only.

This taxi isn't a '48 and I don't know if this is New York but it is a Packard taxi and it does have the crest.

A 1941 Packard across the street from what appears to be a 1940 Wilkie-McNary campaign office. Glad to see that cab company had some money to spend on new cars. That one must have been one of the first off the line.
