G'day Mellow,
Have a look at Post #19 in this thread Broken Axle it may help. Although you've been a PackardInfo member for some time see this is your first post, so And a request, could you please include your Packard in the Packard Owner's Registry together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it? Here's something for you, Mellow Yellow

Not sure if exactly the same, but on my '54 the axle nut is 1-5/16. I ended up buying a socket set from Harbor Freight for large trucks that had impact sockets from 1" to 2". It wasn't too expensive, and I figured I would only use on them every blue moon, so I didn't need to buy expensive versions of them.

Just measure the nut across flats, and that's the socket size.

Got the hub off with the proper tool, thanks. With the Pics, I knew what I was looking for. Never seen anything like it.
Thanks also for the Donovan site. I burned up a couple of hours there. Lots of screen names in his music. Although my 39 is yellow, I thought "Sunshine Superman" was a bit pretentious.
