Anyone ever tried the VIN CarFax search method on a car this old? I've read that's a way that works with "newer" cars but never heard about whether it works for a car pre-1960's.
On a secondary note, I had a list of previous owners of my car and did some searches and found the most info about the owners using Census records. Then was able to use Google streetview to see the old house (still standing) that the car first came home to.

CarFax I believe gets their info from registration databases, but I don't think the states keep that data forever.

I knew the Duchess' original owner's name and some history about him, but I found his obituary and that told me more, plus I had his home address. I drove the car there and met the current owner. The house built in 1889 is on 4 SFO city lots. I also went to the Earle C Anthony dealership on Van Ness Ave. where it was first sold in August 1939.
