It's such a coincidence that I logged on today and saw this thread about the third brake light.
Just last night I decided I was going to install a third brake light. There's a reason behind my decision.

Just last week I got my tag and insurance on my 49 Custom. And I thought I'd takek her out for a nice drive and sure enough someone rear ended me.
It was just a careless driver. And it completely broke my heart.

I'm going through the insurance process now and I'm really going to do my best to get her repaired and back on the road.

So fellas, I'm living proof to get your taillights upgraded. When I get done, I'll have the third brake light and my other lights will also be LED.

Stay Safe out there.

I have been thinking about doing LEDs, and this makes me think about it harder!

Sorry your baby got whacked, but hopefully all works out and she's fixed up better than before. Fingers crossed the damage didn't travel through the body, or mess up the frame. Keep us posted!

DaveJr,

Presently, on the PAC Website, in the Members Only Classified Ads, theres a '50 Packard Parts Car for sale for $500. Could be a source of panels/parts to help in your repairs?

Sorry to hear that. I know this happened at daytime but it reminded me, when I'm driving at night I wait until it's pretty dark to turn on my headlights so that my brake lights are distinguishable for as long as possible.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Ugh, what a nightmare. Hope that it's able to come back together smoothly.

I will say, the LED bulbs are a pretty amazing upgrade. I did this recently with my 2302. Here's how they look at least in the garage, 6v positive ground and all.

The youtube short posted by Joe has a caption that indicates his parts came from a place called LEDlights.com. A quick trip around their site shows that both lights and 6V+ flashers are available.
