Can anyone tell me if the water distrubution tube on the 1937 six is a press fit or just slide in? Are the replacements brass of steel? I am having to do a total rebuild on the engine and there was absolutely no distribution tube left, therefore I have no idea what the old was even supposed to look like. Thanks
Jim

They just slide in. Some NORS makers like Dorman may have made replacements in steel but the originals and Packard replacements were brass. There are pictures of them somewhere on this site, and also partially pictured in the 1948-54 Parts Book, Plate 91.

Hello Jim

I got a used item from John Ulrich for my 120. Good price, good service, excellent condition. Flackmaster maybe able to help too. Max had some repros made for the 120 and also maybe able to help. All different prices so shop carefully.

Good luck

water distribution tubes have a way of getting stuck at the front of the block,it may seem like theyre welded in,but they are supposed to slide out foreward ,if you look at the end theres a seam(after taking off the waterpump ) if not you could make a slit ,I grabbed the seam edge with a needle nose vice grips and twisted it, to roll it down to a smaller diameter and then was able to withdraw it forward ,some guts us a piece of stiff wire with a hook bent on the end that they try to get into one of the slots for a grab spot and pull them out. they get gunked up and it means that theres not cooied water blowing on the valve guides where the clog is ,
sure enough mine had a chunk of calcium crud in a couple of the rear most slots ,This corresponded to the rear of the engine always being hot ,I think the worst offending area is tube at the rear cylinders

Here are some pic's of the tube out of my '41 120, the tube for the Six/110 being similar. If I remember, I'll take some pic's of the one out of the '40 110 that's being rebuilt at the moment. Tube for that was stuck and was damaged getting it out. However Wade had a new one "on the shelf", now nil stock.
