Hi, I've come accross a 2 door woody station wagon on a '37 120 chassis. It looks prety original and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this body type as I have found nothing in any books on it.

Cheers,

- Douglas

Douglas,

Welcome to the website. Would you happen to have any pictures of it?

I believe the model in question is a '37 120, Model 1090 Station Wagon.

Here is the link to the information on it:

G'day Douglas,
And as BigKev said, to Packardinfo - a great Site. And if you're a Packard owner I invite you to add your Packard to the Owner Registry together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it.

Douglas, obviously not a Packard factory offering, have you examined it for the name of the body builder?

Douglas - 1937 120 is my area of expertise. I know of at least 1 120 2 door woody done as a showcar. I have been looking for the actual car for 20+ years, so obviously I would be most anxious to see a picture of what you have found.... please post or email me directly at flackmaster@sbcglobal.net thankyou.

Kev, yes, but they were 4-door wagons and this query is about a 2-door.

Sorry, my mistake. I guess I glanced at the thumbnail picture wrong, and only noticed the two front (un-wooden) doors.

OK, after a bit more research what I've come accross is a '37 Six not a 120 which has been rebodied as a 2 door shooting brake, (modern spelling), sometime after delivery in England. I'm going to see the car this week and will post pictures then. It's reasonably complete save for wiring loom and window glass and trims.

How dificult are these items to find?

Cheers,

- Douglas

Sounds like an interesting car, I for one am anxious to see some pictures.

Rebodying undoubtedly alterned the original wiring, but new OEM-matching wiring harnesses are readily available from several sources, so no problem there though some alteration may be needed. Also all the OEM window glass was just plain flat safety glass so unless the conversion entailed curved glass (pretty damn unlikely in 1937), glass is also easily available; some suppliers have patterns and if an altered window you may have to cut to fit. Stock stainless steel trim is a mixed bag, some is reproduced and some you may have to go fishing for. But then that's the fun isn't it?

Just as an aside, I've always thought that the first American production car to use curved safety glass was the 1934 Chrysler Custom Crown Imperial (Airflow) of 1934 (which I guess really is hard to call a "production" car). Anyone have info to the contrary.
