Does any one know much about this model of 49? I haven't been able to find much on the internet other than the little I found on this site.

Specifically looking for parts so I can start rebuilding the engine.

Any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Bryce

G'day Bryce,
Like to add my to PackardInfo to that of Gerd's. And as Gerd says packardtaximan is a great source of information relating to Packard taxi's, and he'll probably join this discussion at some stage. Regarding parts to rebuild the engine both Kanters and Max Merritt should have the parts for this exercise. In the meantime I invite you to include your '49 Packard Taxi in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo.

Welcome Bryce,
Be sure that anyone you order parts from or anyone doing machine work is aware that your engine is a taxi engine.
If you PM me I can tell you some of the problems I encountered while restoring my 1947 Clipper taxi. I also own a 1949 Packard sedan taxi that is waiting for it's turn to be worked on that can be used for reference if needed.
Regards,
Packardtaximan

Many of the Packard six-cylinder engines were the same and didn't change much over the years. I think you can use multiple parts out of other Packard Straight 6s. But, of course, I own a car with the mighty straight 8 so I might be wrong.

The 48-50 Packard Six uses very few parts from the 37-47.
Unique head gasket etc etc.

See Kanter Auto Products on line catalog at www.kanter.com/packard N Ote , not all prices on internet ahve been updated

Of all the strange things in the universe, I know where a good running post 47 Packard six engine can be bought. Cheap.
