Is there an auto parts store brake light switch that will work in a 1941 Packard?

At any NAPA store, Echlin SL 134 is an exact replacement. About $12. to my knowledge fits all Packards with hydraulic brakes except 1955/56.

Good lead West. To my knowledge the only switch particularly prone to failure with silicone brake fluid is the 55/56 switch; otherwise they seem to last for decades.

Have to disagree there Dave, use silicone in my '41 120's system and have replaced 2 in 3 years. Likewise Wade with his '37's, uses silicone and replaces switches regularly.

Now, if only someone would reproduce the OE three-prong switch (as supplied by FASCO) for 55/56 with that DOT5 compatible rubber, but original style terminals.

I installed a new brake light switch in my '55 Clipper, with DOT-5 fluid, over a year ago and it is still working. I made a comment in my project blog about what the life of this switch would be, and would comment on it from time to time. So far, so good. Maybe it depends upon the material the manufacturer uses. I got my switch from NAPA.

I have 5 years 1 month with the '50 using DOT 5 and the switch is still functioning well. Don't know how much older the switch is... it came with the car and the DOT 5. I do a brake light check every time before starting out anywhere due to the problems others have experienced.
