Seems to have too many head studs for a 282. So, if it's not a 356 might well be a 288 or 327.

It's got the wrong thermostat housing for a 356. Plus, he mentioned it came out of a 1942 Clipper. If he took a 356 out of a 1942 Clipper, he destroyed an extremely rare car (two known).

Hi West.......Remenber the 356 was also used in the super clipper model 2003,I think 5 or 6 known..

Also has the wrong fan. But... the apparent location of the distributor [mid-engine] would lead me to believe the block may be a 356. The engine has a Carter car-starter carburetor.
