Short answer: no. Pre 1940 oil filter was a throwaway unit which is still available.

I guess that explains why its missing. 72 years is probably longer than the prescribed maintenance period.

Nice thing is it looks like the later units could be adapted quite easily. Who could argue a Packard dealer didn't do that when the cartridge type was established and popular. Maybe during the war cartridge types were easier to come by than complete throw away units.

My 1938 Eight has the factory oil filter too. It's an all original engine. A little time consuming to change the filter, those darn fittings are a challenge to get in the right position. The filter is a Purolator PER-1/2. Yes 1/2...
My question is where do I find these filter units. My last fall 2012 trip to Hershey did not prove successful in finding one. Only a few vendors even heard of the unit. Thanks.

If that Firestone oil filter on eBay is as old as it looks, then I would not install it on my 1939 Packard. Who knows what kind of condition the filter media is like. It could break apart and clog up the oiling system. It would make a nice shelf display.
