Supposedly Billy Durant got the Chevrolet logo from a barber shop sign.
In today's non-productive economy even words are bought and sold as some kind of intrinsic value which didn't exist back when people actually produced something for a living. The Packard script was typical font for the day and nothing special. However, today we have such insanity as trade marks for stupity like "It's a Good Thing", "priceless", or "you're fired". I'm waiting for someone to try and trademark integral calculus. In the old days people had work to do and didn't have time for such baloney.

Kev. Look at the INside of the folders to see if there is any imprints or impressions that mite give evidence to what they carried. Also any unusual wear patterns on the back side (outside).

About 4 or 5 years ago i was in Boulder, CO walking in the downtown mall area, sitting out where anyone could play a tune. It was a perfect piece for a perfect evening. it was a Packard upright piano.

These may well be from the Packard Electric in Warren, OH and not from the car company at all. Just a suggestion....

Although Packard Electric DID use a script as their trademarked logo, it was of a slightly different style than what PMCC used. See the JPEG image in this post from JW, in another thread. Notice that the tail of the letter "d" trails of as a simple straight line, rather than with a tailfin. Look more closely and you'll also see that the head of the "P" is different, smaller. If you look at the script used on all of these other products/suppliers, you'll also find variations from the scripts used by PMCC - with good reason. I'm no lawyer, but I believe that you cannot simply trademark a word that has been in common use - including a proper noun like a family name - UNLESS it is executed in a unique design, and that design must be included as part of the trademark application.
