It's an excellent price and I just hope you were not driving the car at a good clip when it happened.

Joe, that is a most interesting failure. Probably due to inferior manufacture. Is this covered in your new car warranty? You should report this to the NHTSA for a possible recall action. I would not give up on Santa, just yet. Seriously, sorry about this problem. Good news is there are probably many rear brake drums out there. Someone here will come to your rescue and drop one down the chimney on Christmas eve.

Take pity on me, boys. My warranty expired at 300,000 miles. Worse, I just did a marathon of shopping for my family of 7 tonight, with help of a friend in exchange for seeing Anna Karenina. And, as Big Kev knows, I value this website at least as much as annual club dues. Would that be enough for a brake drum, St. Richard?

How much do I have to pay for my sins?

Probably the result of trying to use a hammer rather than a puller to get the drum off.

However, hitting a curb can do the same thing.

As well, turning beyond the discard diameter.

I only used a puller on the rear drums, but when we pulled them to redo the brakes in 1986, it did stress them a lot before they popped with a huge bang. Then this wheel was pulled again in 2009 to replace the seals on a leaky cylinder and hone it.

I drive the Duchess at least 3 times a week and don't remember hitting any big potholes.

I'll examine it a bit more, Tim, but everything has a life. My odometer went out after 325,000 miles and wasn't repaired until a few years ago as part of the restoration. I now have 4400 miles since June 2011.

It does seem a lot dustier and rustier, and the spindle is completely dry as I think you can see in the posted photo. I'll blow it off.

Also we welded studs to the inside because of the problems with bolts.Invalidated the warranty I'm sure.

I got this drum with a bunch of 40-160 parts. I'm pretty sure it is correct, and replied promptly in an effort to settle Joe's nerves. I would otherwise have abandoned it by his front door with no note. I don't believe Fedex would put down the chimney. It is used, and out of warranty. Depth as shown - no idea if the ID is within reasonable spec - one groove noted. Need someone to provide Joe's shipping address and I will dispatch promptly. And I believe the reference should be to St. NIck, not St. Dick?
